Burgar House, Welland

Built in 1883 by George R.E. Burgar, the younger brother of Thomas Burgar, first postmaster of Welland; the house was erected on one of five lots between Main and Division streets, composing the initial family property.
In 1889, the Burgars sold the property to Lt.-Col. Sinclair Glasgow and his wife Nancy. Glasgow was a medical doctor and served as mayor of Welland in 1895-96.
After her husband’s death, Nancy Glasgow passed the house on to Theo and Maude Fortner in 1922, daughters of a widow Dr. Glasgow had first married.
The Fortner family possessed the house until the 1970s, when the last of the line, Theo, died.
Tucked behind an imposing, ornate wrought iron fence, this stately yet unassuming house was formerly investigated by The Paranormal Seekers in 2017 but is no longer accessible.
A home passed down to several families over the years, it was also a dance studio and restaurant before being abandoned and remaining empty...ish today.

Padlocks and cameras, always fun to see as someone who wishes they could visit inside. Maybe one day? If anyone in Welland can pull some strings for us, hit up the contact page!

In tried and true paranormal fashion; we were reviewing the pics taken a day or two later. One of the pictures, appears to be someone sitting with their back to the window, the collar of a dark cloak visible, draped over their shoulders.
